PARTY AFFILIATION

Florida Democratic Party

The Democratic Party of Florida is one of the two largest political parties in the state. The Democratic Party holds many congressional seats as well as seats in the Florida Senate and House of Representatives. They, along with the Republican Party, are the center of political attention. The Democratic Party is the more “liberal” or “left-wing” of the two major political parties in the state and stand for many issues including, but not limited to:

  • Access to healthcare
  • Quality education
  • Protecting voter rights
  • Government accountability
  • Civil rights
  • Preventing gun violence
  • Preserving the environment
  • Immigration reform

Green Party of Florida

The Green Party of Florida is considered a “third-party”. It is a minor party aside from the larger two parties that provide an option for voters to make their opinions and voices known. The Greens are known for their advocacy on environmental issues but also have a party platform on many other issues including, but not limited to:

  • The decriminalization of Marijuana and other controlled substances
  • The removal of capital punishment (death penalty) from our judicial system
  • Immigration reform
  • The availability of contraceptive devices (birth control)
  • LGBTQ+ rights
  • Affordable Housing
  • Free and accessible healthcare for all

Libertarian Party of Florida

The Libertarian Party of Florida is another “third-party”.  It is the largest of the minor parties and aside from the other two, larger parties, it provides an option for voters who feel strongly about certain issues. In recent years, the libertarian party has gained popularity, usually coming in third place behind the Democrats and Republicans. The Libertarians are known for their unique, anti-government platform that advocates for issues including, but not limited to:

  • Complete ability to bear arms (second amendment rights)
  • Complete right to individual privacy
  • Complete separation between the economy and state
  • The right to determine one’s own needs for healthcare
  • Complete elimination of federal taxes
  • LGBTQ+ rights
  • Elimination of all anti-substance/anti-drug laws

Political Independent/Not-Affiliated

Essentially, an independent voter is one who chooses not to affiliate with a political party. A political independent usually chooses to vote on key issues at the time of an election, in contrast to voting for a specific candidates’ political leanings or party platform. Political independents usually demonstrate less interest in political issues and more interest in issues that affect them as a citizen. To learn more click here

Republican Party of Florida / Florida GOP

The Republican Party of Florida otherwise known as the “Grand Old Party” or GOP is the other of the two largest political parties in Florida. The Republican Party holds the majority of congressional seats as well as the majority of seats in the Florida Senate and House of Representatives. They, along with the Democratic Party are always in the center of national and statewide politics in all major political contests. The Republican Party is generally considered the more “Right-Wing” or “Conservative” of the two major political parties in Florida and have a stance on many issues, but not limited to:

  • Support of gun ownership rights
  • Anti-abortion laws
  • Small government
  • Fiscal conservatism
  • Free market capitalism
  • Free trade
  • Deregulation of corporations
  • Restrictions on labor unions
  • Academic and school choice

Other than the four largest parties, there are many other parties to choose from and to learn about when you look to register to vote. Once this is done and fits the vision we have, I would like some other sites done in this exact model with just different color themes based on other schools. But I can tell you about that later.
